Branding

We wanted to keep the branding consistent across their digital media. Icons used on their product boxes were also used on the product detail pages to keep it consistent.

A similar treatment was used on icons used throughout their site as well.

Final Product

Subtle Design changes were made throughout the process but the overall structure remained the same. Homepage Banners were uniquely designed to showcase a particular product with a call to action. Below is the final version of the homepage across multiple devices.

Jacket Software – Design process

When given the task of redesigning the logo for Jacket Software, I immediately did some research on the company, its current logo, and its goals.

As always, I began my logo design process by sketching 10-20 different concepts. This is an invaluable step that is often overlooked by designers, but actually helped me land on my final design.

IMG_5096

Originally, I wanted to incorporate a lot of clean edges to emphasize a more modern look. Through this process, I created a J out of triangles, and thought “what if I put this in a circle?”. While sketching, I thought why not make a J out of circles?

IMG_5094

I then scanned the image to Adobe Illustrator and sketched out the circles digitally. I played around with a few fonts and layouts, and eventually landed on what ended up being close to the final logo.
I made a few adjustments after reviewing with the client and created a branding sheet specifying fonts, colors, and alternate uses for the logo. You can see the final logo design, as well as a few mock ups here.

Logo Design – Jacket Software

Jacket Software is a company that builds web applications, and are in the process of upgrading their software. In the meantime, I was given the task of redesigning the company’s visual identity.

I started with the logo. Below is the final version of the logo. You can see an overview of the process here.

Logo Design concept – Iron Sharpens Iron

9/17/2015

I finished the revised logo concept this afternoon for ISI.
The final product can be seen below.

When we decided the focus of the logo will be the shield, I created one using elements of flat design. From there I added effects to give it a rugged and realistic feel.  After i was satisfied with the structure and effects, I began to incorporate Proverbs 27:17 in the cross, and the two swords symbolizing its importance. I reduced the banner back to a flat design in order to create contrast in the final concept.
You can take a look at my process below.

I started updating a logo design for the website isi-la.org. After a conversation with a client, we decided to make the cross immersed on to the shield. I began working on that concept and added some texture. You can see a before and after example of the effects below.

I created a few logo redesign concepts for a non-profit organization based on a few key concepts from the current logo, which can be seen below.

We decided to focus on strong lettering, a shield protecting the cross, swords, and proverbs 27:17 for the redesign. A color scheme has not yet been selected. Below are a few concepts.

Logo design – anticorruptioneducation.org

9/15/2015

I’ve updated the logo design concepts for anticorruptioneducation.org based on some communication with the client. We based the revisions according to a few key points.

  • The logo was changed to a dark blue color.
  • The tagline “Because Knowledge is Power” was added along with the URL.

We also incorporated a bigger focus on the educational aspects of the site, as well as font choice and spacing.

I started working on a logo design concept for anticorruptioneducation.org . The concept is based on a website where you can search for courses and other resources related to anti-corruption. I incorporated elements of flat design as well as a simple search icon to emphasize the website’s objective.

New Google Algorithm to Favor Mobile Sites

Google has made a massive change to their search engine algorithm. The current changes will favor mobile friendly sites over older sites designed for computers. What does this mean for businesses? Essentially, businesses whose websites don’t follow a set of criteria will be penalized by ranking lower in their search engine. However, this also means that companies which are proactive in the conversion process to a mobile friendly site have a chance to be ahead of the curve.

What makes a site mobile friendly?

According to Google, sites which have a limited amount of graphics and flash animations will be considered more mobile friendly. Mobile devices use data plans often and have limited data speeds and less memory. Less images and animations will increase speed and accessibility for mobile users.
Google has also put an emphasis on how the pages scroll. Pages are to scroll up and down and require no scrolling left to right as well. This means the content must be stackable so regardless of the device the page will reformat for a smaller device.
This change is not shocking many analysts. 2014 was the first year in which people used their mobile devices more than their desktops and laptops.

What can businesses do?

Luckily site conversions can be done by web design companies. Contact Dhali in order to find out if your site is mobile friendly or not and if an upgrade is necessary.

Loop with Query Posts

I was running into a problem where I needed to overwrite the default number of posts that get display. I was working on a taxonomy archive page and it was showing at the most 10 posts.

I knew the amount of post that it was showing was because in the WordPress Dashboard there is a setting Where you can set the number of post that can be shown on any given page. This is set under Settings > Reading.

blog-posts-show

I wanted to use the default loop on my taxonomy archive page and just overwrite a couple parameters.

I ran into a great article on Digwp.com that showed different ways of using the WordPress Loop. You can head over and read the Article 4 Ways to Loop with WordPress.

Loop with query_posts();

<?php global $query_string; // required
$posts = query_posts($query_string.'&posts_per_page=3&cat=-6,-9&order=ASC'); ?>

<?php // DEFAULT LOOP GOES HERE ?>

<?php wp_reset_query(); // reset the query ?>

This code above uses the default query and sets the posts shown to 3 excludes category 6 and 9 and shows them in Ascending order.

In my case I just needed to overwrite the default setting which was 10. I needed to show all posts in my taxonomy archive page. I just added the following before the loop.

<?php global $query_string; // required
$posts = query_posts($query_string.'&posts_per_page=-1&order=ASC'); ?>

<?php // DEFAULT LOOP GOES HERE ?>

<?php wp_reset_query(); // reset the query ?>

This code above uses the default query and sets the posts shown to -1 (all) and shows them in Ascending order.
